Head coach of the Young Lions Antti Pennanen has named the under-20 World Cup team for the World Cup to be played in Edmonton.

The team includes forwards Brad Lambert, Joakim Kemell, Aatu Räty and defenders Topi Niemelä and Ruben Rafkin.

Rädy missed the World Championships, which were suspended at the turn of the year, due to the coronavirus infection.

– We have a lot of good players to choose from. Weighted in the horizontal cup were e.g. roles, superiority and inferiority skills and dexterity, head coach Pennanen said in the Finnish Ice Hockey Association’s press release and continued:

– We relied heavily on history and common experiences in the selections. Only a few changes have been made to the team that was assembled at the turn of the year.

The team, who shone in the shirt of Oulu Kärppie last spring, is getting tired Joel Blomqvist, who was not even selected for the preparation camp for the World Championships in Vierumäki. Goalkeepers were chosen for the games Juha Jatkola, Leevi Meriläinen mixed Jani Lampinen.

Blomqvist’s save percentage in 20 SM league regular season matches was 94.02 and in seven playoff matches 94.97. GM of the Young Lions Kimmo Oikarinen told Iltalehte in June that the back gate would have been open.

– Of course, we always have. The doors have still not closed for any player, Oikarinen said at the time and continued:

– We will certainly look into the matter more in July and during the camp. Then we know who is healthy and fit and how everyone has been training. Let’s get in touch with “Somebody” and see where he goes.

The Under-20 World Cup will be played in Edmonton, Canada from August 9 to 20, 2022. The races were suspended at the turn of the year due to the corona virus.
