The young activist Ahed Tamimi, among the Palestinians freed by Israel

The Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi He has been one of the 30 prisoners released by Israel early this Thursday within the framework of a temporary truce in the fighting in Loop between Israel and militants of Hamas. Israeli troops arrested earlier this month Tamimi, considered in the occupied West Bank as a Palestinian heroine since she was a teenager, under accusation of inciting violence. Her mother denied the charges and said they were based on a false social media post. Specifically, Tamini was arrested on November 6 for an Instagram post that, according to Israeli sources, called for the massacre of Israelis and made reference to Hitler. Her mother Narimane, whose husband was also arrested, has denied that Ahed is the author of this post, as her social media accounts are blocked by Israel.

The Israel Prison Service published a list of released Palestinians on its website Thursday morning that included Tamimi. A Palestinian official said she was released after being held in the Damon prison near the Israeli city of Haifa.

Tamimi, 22, rose to fame in 2017 when, at age 16, she slapped an Israeli soldier who raided her West Bank village of Nabi Saleh. After slapping the soldier, Ella Tamimi was sentenced to eight months in prison after pleading guilty to reduced charges that included assault.

Tamini has protested Israeli land confiscations in the area for years. The conflict in the occupied territories is day to day, and has caused dozens of deaths since the war broke out in the Gaza Strip.
