Jari Saarion’s Horn To Hope project has been completed and arrived in Finland.

The name, Clayton, has been painted after wrapping green letters.
Color is not a coincidence.
Wrapper is the father of the name.
Saario and Käärijä visited the castle party in 2023.
– I asked the wrapper if he wanted to give the name my next boat, Saario says.
– There are many kings and presidents in Europe, but the wrapper is such a commander -in -chief. He has made himself a phenomenon.
According to Saario Tarzan (1999) Clayton character. Disney version is based on Edgar Rice Burroughs in a classic Tarzan – King of Monkey (1912).

When to the water?
Clayton has not yet entered the water, but Saario seems confident, even enthusiastic. The previous trip boat was symptomatic before departure and proved to be bad at the latest on the way back, on a violent northern route over the Atlantic.
– This is bigger and more stable but not heavier to row.
Clayton is 7.3 and 1.7 meters wide. Weight is just under 400 kilograms.
– I believe it is more humane to be on the move with this. Able to sit and lie down straight.
Saario inches that Clayton could take the first feeling in the water in the Gulf of Finland, even in the next few days.
– It would be a bit attractive when it is there now.

450,000 euros
The total budget for the Horn to Hope project is approximately EUR 450,000, says Saario. Clayton accounts for less than one third.
– It takes about € 170,000 for transportation. Especially at the end of Chile, logistics is freezing.
Part of the funding comes from partners, partly from the savings account, partly on a bank loan.
– A few times it has come to my mind if I should have just stayed at the fire department, Saario laughs.
– Everything has been invested in this.

Without tearing
Saario does virtually all the preparations himself. The actual preparation, or physical training, has been low.
The priming training has been mainly light jogging and bike.
“There is nothing to tear now, because no place can break down,” Saario emphasizes.
– The most important thing is a good mood. The main cabin will be so hard on the trip.
In the spring, summer and the autumn, there is time to row and get to know Clayton’s features.
– The shoulders have to be spared, because the traction will be so big. After the previous trip, it took another three months to wear a t-shirt.

Are you scared?
The actual rowing takes place at the end of the year. Saario is touring Kap Horn, known for his fierce storms, and continues over the Atlantic goal, Cape Town.
In other words, he is rowing from southern South America to the southern tip of Africa.
The waves are ten meters, even higher. The temperature swings on both sides of zero.

– Don’t scare you. The journey becomes partly tough and inhumane, but I have a hundred percent credit to survive and overcome, Saario assures.
– Before the last trip, someone asked if I finished the farewell letter. I didn’t do – and I’m not going to do it now.
