Founding member of the British band Depeche Mode Andy Fletcherin the death has shocked fans and musicians around the world.
Fletcher’s departure was reported on the band’s Finnish channels on Thursday. Fletcher, who played bass and keyboards at Depeche Mode, was 60 years old. The cause of death has not yet been reported.
Numerous colleagues and friends took part in the grief, including on Twitter. Former keyboardist and drummer for Depeche Mode Alan Wilder released a black and white picture of his old bandmate.

Guitarist-songwriter Vernon Reid praises Fletcher’s playing skills in particular Violatorwith an album featuring Depeche Mode’s best-known songs Personal Jesus and Enjoy The Silence.

Combining electro and rock, Depeche Mode was founded in 1980. The band, which has toured several times in Finland, has sold about 100 million albums and singles. In 2020, the band was named part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Depeche Mode’s story has threatened to end in quarrels and substance abuse, but the difficulties were overcome time and time again. In the 1990s, members quarreled with each other and Fletcher skipped the band’s world tour.
Soloist Dave Gahan suffered from drug addiction and overdosed on heroin in the mid-1990s. After that, the break-up of the band seemed likely, but after Gahan got dry, Depeche Mode continued to move forward together. The band last performed in Finland in 2018.
