Played in the NHL for several seasons Anton Strålman returns to Sweden. SHL club HV71 announced on Saturday that they have acquired an experienced defender.

Strålman, 36, has signed a one-year contract with the club.

Strålman played eight NHL games for the Boston Bruins last season. During the season, he also cooled down on the AHL ice in the jersey of the Bruins’ farm team Providence Bruins.

Strålman, who played a total of 16 seasons in the NHL, was last seen in the Swedish premier league in the 2007 season, when he played in Timrå.

The Swedish defenseman played a total of 938 regular season games in the NHL.

– It’s fun to be able to play in the SHL again. I hope to be able to bring experience to the team. The season is a process and I think I can at least help the young players with tips and valuable feedback, Strålman commented on his transfer.

– We get a player with invaluable experience on and off the ice. Anton is very motivated to come to HV71 and play with us in the SHL, despite having experienced everything during his hockey career. We get a defender who plays wisely both offensively and defensively, HV71 sports director Kent Norberg was happy.

Strålman is also a familiar sight in Tre Kronor’s shirt, as he has won World Cup gold in the Swedish national team.

In addition to the Bruins, he represented the Toronto Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers and Arizona Coyotes in the NHL.
