The wild end of the Finns’ flight: One passenger cried

The under-20 national ice hockey team was relieved when the plane landed in Gothenburg.

The Finnish team left Helsinki-Vantaa for traffic after eight on the morning of Christmas Day.

– We were able to spend two days at home celebrating Christmas after the training games. Nice to see the boys active here again. The batteries are fully charged. From here we go to Gothenburg, says the general manager Kimmo Oikarinen.

The flight of the young Lions to the competition city otherwise went well, but the landing was rough. The wind shook the plane strongly during landing.

The experience was not pleasant for everyone, but at least one passenger cried. The players were relieved when the plane’s tires touched the runway and they threw each other uppercuts.

On the ice

Finland got its first impression on the ice of the Gothenburg hall on Christmas day in the afternoon. TIMO KUNNARI

The team was in Gothenburg after noon and went to the hotel from there.

In the afternoon, the program included a Team Photo and the first ice practice.

– The equipment was already left in Gothenburg after the training camp. Huolto built a booth for us and the boys’ civilian clothes are also ready there. We have two big booths, they are the booths of the SHL visiting team. So we will get good conditions, Oikarinen assures.

– Everything is ready. Let’s head towards the tournament with enthusiasm.

Lassila is the captain of the team.

The opening opponent is defending champion Canada.

– We will immediately get to measure and see for ourselves what has been taken away after playing in Canada this season, Arttu Kärki ponders.
