The whole village listens to the school principal and cycles on a narrow road, worries remain.

The call from school director Peter Bakker to come to school by bicycle has been massively answered. The head of the school is making the call because students from the Havenrakkers in Broek in Waterland are going to an emergency school for the first time today. The building is located on a narrow road, so councilor Luuk Zaal is concerned that accidents could happen if parents take the car again.

Director Peter Bakker is beaming when he sees how many people have responded to his urgent appeal. After a week of moving from the old one to the emergency school, the doors open for the children and they all come by bicycle. According to Bakker, the beautiful weather and the fact that the opening of the school today has contributed to this.

Traffic plan

Council member Luuk Zaal of D66 also calls the turnout a dream for everyone who has thought about the traffic plan. Still, he is concerned about the narrow road and the traffic plan. “What I am concerned about is that if the weather is bad, people will still take the car.” He thinks that the municipality only looked at where the school should be and only then started thinking about a traffic plan. “You shouldn’t have to think about accidents happening here.”

Bakker has confidence in the Broekers. “Most people are good and want the best for their child.” If things go wrong with bad weather and in the dark, he wants to intervene immediately.
