To mark the 20th anniversary of the White Stripes’ quietest record, there are also demos, alternative studio recordings and live versions.

The White Stripes have announced a reissue of their fifth album GET BEHIND ME SATAN. For its 20th anniversary, the subtle LP is now GET BEHIND ME SATAN XX. As a bonus, there are songwriting demos, alternate studio recordings and live versions of tracks from the original 2005 album.

The 2xLP vinyl package is released with an additional 7″ as well as a Blu-ray with recordings from the band’s tour through Central and South America in 2005. The set is only available via the vinyl subscription service The Vault – Registration required by January 31st.

“The fact that it was in no way ELEPHANT 2 only further confused, angered and/or beguiled many,” White’s label said in a statement. In fact, GET BEHIND ME SATAN is almost like the antithesis to the rumbling blues monster with the mega hit “Seven Nation Army”. Instead of guitars, piano, marimbas and xylophone dominate.

The White Stripes’ weirdest album

In other words, the album clearly stands out among the duo’s work. “Given their newfound global commercial success, no other contemporary rock band has had the courage to add mandolin, timpani, handbells and marimba to their repertoire, let alone undertake extensive tours through Central America and Eastern Europe,” the statement accompanying the release of the reissue package adds . “What is enchanting now, upon closer inspection, are the different threads that all came together to make Satan so refreshing.”

Of course, that makes you sad because Jack and Meg White will probably never play together again. Meg has withdrawn from the music business for years. Last year, her colleague Jack publicly congratulated him on his 50th birthday. With NO NAME 2024, Jack White presented his most ambitious album to date as a solo musician.
