The Week of Drenthe: wolf damage quadrupled and Winde startled by earthquakes

Long waiting times in hospitals, more damage from wolves and two earthquakes in Winde. This and much more was in the news last week. In De Week van Drenthe you can see an overview of the most important events.

On Monday it was announced that hospitals in Drenthe have much longer waiting times for non-urgent care than agreed with health insurers. This is evident from an inventory by RTV Drenthe. The Wilhelmina Hospital Assen does not meet this standard in almost two thirds of the cases. At Bethesda in Hoogeveen and the Scheper Hospital in Emmen, the standard is not met in about a third of the cases. At Isala in Meppel, this concerns a fifth of the cases.

A day later, RTV Drenthe calculated how much damage wolves caused between May 2022 and April 2023. The damage has quadrupled over that period. In total, this is an amount of about one and a half tons. That same day, both the Public Prosecution Service and Thijs Römer reported that an appeal has been lodged in the sex case against the actor.

On Tuesday evening, the village of Winde was shaken by earthquakes. The quake measured 1.6 on the Richter scale. A day later, around noon, a second quake with a magnitude of 1.7 followed. According to the KNMI, both quakes were caused by gas extraction. Winde is located close to a gas field.

On Thursday, two entrepreneurs from Assen and Beilen announced that they are extending a trial with new technologies in healthcare. After the summer, the test will be carried out in twenty households in Drenthe. The entrepreneurs want to see whether they can improve remote care with new techniques, such as artificial intelligence and sensors.

And on Friday it was announced that campsite managers are holding their hearts. We find many campsites close to Drenthe’s nature. But the problems caused by nitrogen regulations and permits are getting bigger and bigger. For example, Bart Dijkstra from De Noordster campsite in Dwingeloo wants to discuss this quickly.
