The haggling over five trees on Ter Borchsingel in Eelderwolde continues. The trees would be cut down on Monday, because a large supermarket will be built there. In the end, this fate spared the trees, to the relief of the opponents. “We do not understand why such a large supermarket has to be built. It is at the expense of a lot of greenery and nature.”

The trees fell on Tuesday, because project developer BUN still had the correct permits, according to the municipality of Tynaarlo.

In the night from Monday to Tuesday, a minor girl died in a one-sided car accident on Hemmenweg in Ekehaar. Four other passengers, all minors, were injured in the accident. All five occupants were at the Dokter Nassau College in Assen, where a memorial was set up.

“The purpose of the meeting was, of course, to be together, with each other, with the students and colleagues to be able to share grief after the accident on Monday night,” says Ralf Buiten, director of the school.

Until April last year, Frida Kahlo was showing off at the Kop van de Vaart in Assen, but she will get a worthy replacement. From Monday, a more than four meters high statue by artist Vincent van Gogh will be placed here.
