A striking step in tackling fraud, measures for the heavily used Meppel-Zwolle train route and a split within the Forum for Democracy faction in Hoogeveen. This was Drenthe’s week.

Suspects of fraud were presented in a fully recognizable image by the police this week, where they are normally blurted out. This happened for dozens of cases throughout the Netherlands. Two suspects of the four cases in Drenthe have now been identified after that action.

According to the police, they were recognized or reported themselves. These are suspects from cases in Beilen and Emmen.

The measures to solve the bottleneck on the railway near Meppel are known. There will be an extra platform, three of the fourteen level crossings between Meppel and Zwolle will be renovated and there will be a bicycle tunnel at Meppel.

All this to ensure that there are fewer disruptions on the heavily used Meppel-Zwolle train route. Trains are now sometimes delayed for up to nine hours a week, or they do not run at all.

The results of the municipal elections have not even been known for a week or a split has already arisen within the Forum for Democracy (FVD) faction in Hoogeveen. The party went from two to five seats, but two members are now threatening to resign and take their seats with them.

This is evident from an internal letter in the hands of RTV Drenthe. Number six Harald Knegt and number eight Rolinka Klooster of FVD complain. In the letter they also indicated that they would like to consult with the council, if necessary under their own flag.

Dwingeloo is bracing itself for the thousands of visitors that The Passion will bring. Construction of the stage started last week, which closed several roads in the village. Careful consideration is given to both traffic and safety.

Bram Bloemerts contributes to the so-called mobility plan for the major event in his own village. He works at Trigion Traffic Support and is deployed throughout the country at major events. “Normally I call Groningen close to home for work, but now I can stay at home.”

Hundreds of residents of Assen and the surrounding area with damage from the earthquake near Eleveld came to meetings in Assen and Rolde on Thursday evening. They are concerned about whether their damage is being settled properly and that evening they were able to ask questions to mayors, the Mining Damage Committee and the Mining Damage Institute.

The victims were not really reassured, because there is still no concrete arrangement, despite the efforts of the mayors of Assen, Aa and Hunze and Midden-Drenthe. They made a plea in The Hague, with the support of the province, to generously compensate all victims. More will be known about a new arrangement at the end of April.
