The War On Drugs release two new songs

The War On Drugs are reissuing their latest album I Don’t Live Here Anymore. The deluxe box set will be released on Friday September 30th. From now on you can already hear two previously unheard songs – “Oceans of Darkness” and “Slow Ghost”, which were previously only known as a live version.

The band performed “Oceans of Darkness” in a 2020 appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “One night when we had been working on what would become ‘I Don’t Live Here Anymore’ for many months, Dave thought [Hartley] had a raw demo in my Dropbox called ‘Oceans of Darkness’ and insisted we try to record it,” singer Adam Granduciel now writes about the song. “We were frustrated and exhausted at that moment, but we sat in a circle after dinner and worked them out while the tape rolled.”

“It’s rare that one of our songs feels so complete after just a few takes, but it had all the desperation and urgency we were looking for.” Still, the song didn’t make it onto the final version of the album: “In the end I didn’t consider the song for the album because I couldn’t find a home for it among the other songs. We’re happy to be able to share it with you now.”

The box set contains the original album on 180-gram LP and cassette and a 7” single with the two new songs.
