Presenter and media personality Vappu Pimiä’s latest Instagram update has sparked discussion on social media.

Vappu says in her latest update that she visited her husband Teemun and a couple with their children in a restaurant in Tampere. At the end of the dinner, the waiter asked Vapu and Teemu a question, which amused the duo.

– When I asked for the bill, the waiter asked: “will we order from the same or separately?” Amused, Teemu and I told the waiter that the train with separate bills probably left the station for us a few years ago…

Pimiä’s experience sparked discussion in the Instagram comments. The question divided social media followers into two different camps. Some of the followers pointed out that the waiter should not assume the mutual relations of the restaurant guests. Still others considered the question unnecessary.

– Really, waiters are not supposed to know all their customers, and this was probably the case in this case. Very cleverly done when asked, one commenter wrote.

– Families have many different ways of doing things and that’s why the waiter’s question is quite correct, commented one of the followers.

– If I myself were with my children eating with my husband (who is not the children’s father), I would consider it a strange assumption that the bill is automatically brought to the husband. Yes, we do a lot of paying separately when we have two different finances, said one commenter.

– That sentence “from the same or separately?” it was hard to get used to it after years of living in the USA. And I have never come across anything like this in any corner of the world, wrote one.

Pimiä married Teemu, known as a mystery man, in 2013. The couple has two school-aged children.
