After filling the Movistar Arena on December 1 with more than 15,000 people, Tomás Rebord became a trend with the hashtag #RebordPresidente, a fictitious “campaign” that exploded on the networks after the driver, dressed as Batman, “announced” his candidacy in a parody tone to the rhythm of the national anthem. What began as a stage gag led to a wave of memes, exaggerations and ironic supports that positioned him, for hours, as a supposed presidential candidate.
The show — which included chants like “You feel, you feel, Rebord President” and sketches where his companions acted as Batman villains — was read by many as a mockery of the political climate. Rebord, creator of This is Blenderdid not express any real intention to compete electorally: the trend rather reflected social humor and the use of satire as political commentary.
The “launch” scene instantly went viral. Accounts like @OOCBord published “REBORD ANNOUNCED HIS CANDIDACY FOR PRESIDENT AT THE MOVISTAR ARENA,” while users like @MarianoFederal joked with edited photos of “a million people” outside the stadium. Others, like @Agua_Romero, compared the joke to advertisements by real leaders, and @guisodefactos added it to a list of “delirious proposals” to attack Peronism. Imaginary formulas such as “Rebord Presidente – Ruffo Vice” or “Rebord Presidente, Rosemblat Vice” also emerged.
The comparison with Milei also crept into the conversation. “Rebord, Marini and Blender filled the Arena without giving away tickets or embarrassing others like the president,” @Eunepetaculo ironically said. Another user finished: “Rebord not only filled the Arena, he also showed that spectacle can be more attractive than politics.”
The viralization of #RebordPresidente exposes how a humorous show can mutate into a political-digital phenomenon, amplified by an audience that mixes sarcasm, boredom and celebration of alternative figures. Rebord is not looking for the Rosada, but his imaginary presidency – born among jokes, costumes and memes – has already triumphed on the networks.
