The Union’s economic wing sees nuclear energy as a central focus

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The economic wing of the Union is pushing for further use of nuclear energy. “Germany must consistently use the supply of climate-friendly energy. This includes nuclear energy at a central point,” says a board resolution of the SME and Economic Union of the CDU and CSU (MIT). The federal government should therefore join an alliance of 22 states that had positioned itself for a significant expansion of nuclear power capacities at the world climate conference in Dubai.

After the nuclear phase-out this year, Germany must immediately decide on a dismantling moratorium for the remaining power plants and prepare for them to be put back into operation, according to the decision, which was first reported by the “Bild” newspaper (Saturday). It was also available to the German Press Agency. The federal government should also accelerate research and development for next-generation nuclear reactors.

MIT boss Gitta Connemann (CDU) told “Bild” that the “German special path” must be ended. “The industrial country of Germany needs affordable electricity at any time of the day.”

Dealing with nuclear energy is also a focus in the discussions on a planned new policy program for the CDU. This Monday, the party’s top committees are scheduled to discuss a first draft. It was agreed that the content would be kept confidential. Among other things, it should also contain a positioning for sticking to the option of nuclear power./sam/DP/mis
