The UN offered to help countries after the tsunami in the Pacific Ocean

The United Nations (UN) will provide the countries of the Pacific region with the necessary assistance after the tsunami in the Kingdom of Tonga, follows from statement Deputy Spokesperson of the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq.

“UN Pacific Offices are closely monitoring the situation and stand ready to assist if requested,” the statement said.

Some countries have already offered their assistance to the UN.

On January 15, the underground volcano Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Haapai erupted in the island Kingdom of Tonga. Due to the threat of flooding in the capital Nuku’alofa, King Tupou VI was evacuated from the palace. The tsunami could still strike the north and east coasts of the North Island, the west coast of the South Island and the Chatham Islands in New Zealand, noted National Emergency Management.
