Someone threw a grenade at the spectators of a cricket match, a very popular sport in Afghanistan

The UN assured this Friday that 19 people were killed in an attack on a cricket stadium in Afghanistan’s capital, in addition to other victims that he does not quantify. The information was provided this Friday by the UN spokesman, Farhan Haq, when reading a condemnation message from Secretary General António Guterres, but he did not give more details. Guterres offered his condolences to the families of the dead and recalled that attacks against civilians and civilian targets are “prohibited by international humanitarian law” in any case.

The attack was perpetrated against the Kabul International Cricket Stadium, where a game of the national league of this very popular sport in the Asian country was being played, a match that was played because Friday (a Muslim holiday) was the sports day par excellence and in which many people usually go to the stadiums.

Various media previously reported four wounded in this attack perpetrated with a grenade fired at spectatorsaccording to police sources, but the UN seems to have more up-to-date information.

It is unknown who may have carried out the attack, but since the Taliban took power last summer, the main acts of terrorism are being perpetrated by groups loyal to the Islamic State.
