Citizens from the countries will no longer have access to the US from 9 June. This is Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

For people from seven other countries, namely Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela, partial limitations apply, according to the White House. Trump says that the new entry ban was inspired by the attack on a Jewish protest march last Sunday in Boulder. “The recent terrorist attack in Boulder shows the extreme danger of foreigners who enter our country without proper screening,” he said in a video message. According to Trump, the list of countries can be expanded if new threats occur elsewhere in the world.

During his first term, Trump already made an entry ban for travelers from seven predominantly Islamic countries. After legal proceedings, that controversial policy was ultimately ratified in 2018 by the Supreme Court.
