In early July, the actress’s lawyers filed a petition in the Virginia court to overturn the sentence in which Johnny Depp won the trial against his ex-wife. The reason? The ruling “was not supported by sufficient evidence” the lawyers explained. In particular, the lawyers pointed the finger at the poor checks on the jury. In her instance of hers, in fact, the actress argued that the identity of one of the members who sentenced her had not been properly verified. On paper, the juror must have been born in 1945, but in reality he would have been much younger. Hence the cancellation request.

The judge’s response

In the July 13 judgment, Judge Penney Azcarate, who presided over the Depp v. Heard defamation trial at Fairfax County Circuit Court, denied the post-trial motions brought by the star of Aquaman. According to People magazine, the judge explained that there is no “evidence of fraud or wrongdoing” among the jury. In court documents, published by Law & Crime NetworkAzcarate said that the juror in question never lied on his forms and, like the rest of the jurors, was “vetted”. Hence the decision to dismiss Heard’s appeal. That she is probably already thinking about her next move.
