The ten finalists of the “Mario Rigoni Stern Prize” unveiled

The history of the Mario Rigoni Stern Award

The purpose of the Award is to identify the elements of excellence in Alpine fiction and non-fiction within the works published in the previous two years. Mario Rigoni Stern was able to describe in the Italian literature of the twentieth century “in an original way the culture of the mountain people, telling the link between mountain people and their environment”. All this “proposing the Alps as a significant horizon of contemporary literature and historiography, of modern ecological sentiment and even of ethics”.

The 2022 edition of the Prize and the 10 finalists

On 2 September at 5.30 pm at the Riva del Garda Congress Center the winning work will be announced. From the 45 titles received by the Award secretariat, the jury (composed of Sara Lucchetta, Giuseppe Mendicino, Luca Mercalli, Annibale Salsa and Niccolò Scaffai) selected ten works that are played for the victory.

Finally, it was announced that, during the final ceremony of the Prize, the award will also be given Guardian of the Ark – Osvaldo Dongilli. This year this prize will be awarded to beesa very important insect in the defense of biodiversity but at the same time in danger due to climate change, pollution and the spread of insecticides. The award will be received in their name by the entomologist and beekeeper Paolo Fontana.
