The Swedish team features familiar names from last spring’s World Cup.

In the wake of the Lions and the USA, Sweden released its own national men’s ice hockey team for the Milan–Cortina Winter Olympics.

The team stars, among others, Anaheim Ducks’ number one center Leo Carlsson, who is playing a top season, and Pittsburgh Penguins’ star defenseman Erik Karlsson, and Nashville Predators’ goal spitter Filip Forsberg.

Previously, Victor Hedman, Rasmus Dahlin, Adrian Kempe, William Nylander, Gabriel Landeskog and Lucas Raymond were already selected for the team essay.

Tre Kronor’s team also has role players from the lower courts. For example, in the Tampa Bay Lightning, Pontus Holmberg, who mostly grinds in the quad chain, is a surprise choice for the team. The forward has scored 12 points in 36 games this season.

The team did not include the young rising star of the San Jose Sharks, William Eklund, or the Minnesota forward Marcus Johansson, who played his whole life. Also a regular defenseman for the Edmonton Oilers Mattias Ekholmia not seen at the Olympics.

In goal, Sweden has Minnesota Wild’s goalkeeper duo Filip Gustavsson and Jesper Wallstedt or Jacob Markström, who already played in the World Cup in the spring.
