Central defender for Brentford in the English Premier League Pontus Jansson was not invited to the Swedish national team for the Nations League games.
Jansson have represented Sweden in 27 national matches. He was Blågultin in a shirt at the October 2020 Nations League matches. Jansson now gave an interview to the Swedish newspaper Sydsvenskan when Sweden is playing the same competition without him.
– I got almost all the shit down my neck from two bad national matches. Okay, I made a mistake against Croatia and it was our loss. Everyone was miserable against Portugal, but I got everything out of it too, Jansson lamented.
Unfair?
Sweden lost both matches at the time. Now Sweden has faced Slovenia and Norway in the just-started Nations League. Sweden overthrew Slovenia 2–0, but Norway was stronger than the Swedes 2–1 on Sunday night.
Jansson’s comments on the 2020 games came in an awkward place insofar as the team is still preparing to face Serbia and Norway next week.
– I was left all alone, thrown to the wolves in front of the media. I have no problem accepting criticism, but sometimes there will be a limit. I was put alone in front of the media five minutes after the game, Jansson told Sydsvenskan.
Toppari claimed that others get better treatment in a Swedish shirt.
– The national team could have acted differently. The treatment is not the same for all players.
The coach was surprised

After coaching Norway, head coach Andersson commented on Jansson’s speeches.
– I have a really good relationship with Pontus, but I don’t understand what he means to the national team in this case.
The Swedish pilot wanted Jansson to call.
– If he showed his word to me, I am very sorry and disappointed. In that case, I would like him to be in touch with me so that we can deal with it together, Andersson suggested.
Sweden will face Serbia on 9 June and Norway again on 12 June.
