In a popular district of Rome, the Budavari circus sets up its tent. It’s 1956 and in Hungary, where the acrobats come from, Soviet tanks are stifling freedom.
In Italy, the head of the Gramsci section and editor of the Unit Silvio Orlando embraces orthodoxy. His wife, Barbora Bobulova, is with the dissidents.
It’s the movie within a movieand it’s a difficult work for the director to define and to make: his wife wants to leave him, the producer is in financial trouble, and he’s not feeling too well either.
