On Tuesday, the song ‘Cheerio’ already had 245,000 views on YouTube. On King’s Day in Breda it was sang along by 40,000 people. ‘Cheerio’, written by Osse singer and songwriter Jeffrey Heesen, among others, seems to have the potential to become this year’s new summer hit.
Jeffrey, who also sings himself, does not mind that his fellow artist Justen de Wildt now seems to be really breaking through with this song. “I wrote this song for him and not for myself,” he says on Tuesday in the Omroep Brabant radio program ‘Wine in the Afternoon’. “I think Justen is a great artist who lives for the stage, day and night. I wish him the best and have always said to him: ‘You will hit him one day!'”
That breakthrough moment now seems to be coming for Justen, with a cheerful up-tempo song written by Jeffrey. “People who know my music also recognize ‘the Jeffrey sound’,” says the Osse singer with some pride.
Clap
Jeffrey knew when he was working on the song that this could be a hit. “We made a demo and I played it hundreds of times on the way home. The song has such a cheerful and good vibe, I couldn’t get it out of my head after that.”
More people now seem to be experiencing this because the song is also being streamed en masse on Spotify. “Who knows, it wouldn’t have been such a great success if I had sung it myself,” Jeffrey adds. “Justen just has it, I hope this will be the song that will make us hear a lot more from him. I am incredibly proud of him.”
