2025 will also be a year full of sporting highlights: Handball World Cup, Winter Sports World Cup, Women’s European Football Championship and Tour de France – and much, much more. An overview.

Darts – World Cup final on January 3rd

The year ends with darts and begins with darts. Running until January 3rd in the legendary London “Ally Pally“The World Championships of 2025. The final will take place on Friday at 9 p.m. and there will definitely be a new champion. Luke Humphries failed in the round of 16 against Peter Wright.

Ski jumping – Four Hills Tournament until January 6th

The Olympic heroes are the skeleton of the tournament line-up, which is set to take aim in the new year after the first World Cup medal since the 2007 coup in their own country. The first World Cup task in Herning, Denmark is Poland (January 15th), followed by the other preliminary round games against Switzerland (January 17th) and the Czech Republic (January 19th).

All games of the German team will be played by ARD and ZDF broadcast – on TV and via live stream on the internet. The sports show also offers all German games Audio live stream on sportschau.de, in the Sportschau app, in the ARD audio library and on all voice assistance systems.

Tennis – Australian Open from January 12th to 26th

In 2025, the only question in German tennis will probably be: When will Alexander Zverev win his first title at a Grand Slam tournament? In Melbourne he has his first serves of the year.

Tobogganing – World Cup from February 2nd to 4th

Alpine Skiing – World Cup from February 4th to 16th

There will be alpine action in Saalbach-Hinterglemm (Austria) for almost two weeks. A medal for the DSV team would be a welcome surprise.

Football – Super Bowl on February 9th in New Orleans

It will certainly be another mega spectacle: the world’s largest individual sportevent of the year, the Super Bowlrises in New Orleans. RTL and DAZN broadcast live.

biathlon – World Cup from February 12th to 23rd

Sprints, hunting races, individual and mass starts and three different relays – the biathletes will be competing at their world championships from February 12th to 23rd, 2025 in Lenzerheide (Switzerland). ARD and ZDF show all competitions alternately, Eurosport is also at the start.

Nordic Skiing – World Championships from February 26th to March 9th

Cross-country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combination: German athletes are particularly concerned when a ski jump is involved. Para-cross-country skiing competitions are also held in Trondheim (Norway).

Bobsleigh and Skeleton, World Cup from March 3rd to 16th

In Lake Placid, the German starters around Francesco Friedrich and Co. are hoping for many medals.

Ski Freestyle and Snowboard, World Championships from March 17th to 30th

The World Cup will be held in the Engadine, and the Swiss can look forward to a big party.

Football, quarter-finals of the Nations League on March 20th and 23rd

The two games against Italy are an important interim step for Julian Nagelsmann with a view to the 2026 World Cup.

Athletics, World Indoor Championships from March 21st to 23rd

After the World Cup disaster in 2023 without a single medal, things should go much better for the DLV in Nanjing (China) in 2025. Of course, hopes rest on Paris Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye (shot put).

Handball – April: Final Four in the DHB Cup on April 12th and 13th

The men’s DHB Cup will be played in Cologne for the third time this year. A second division team will be there for the first time – HBW Balingen-Weilstetten. You’re dealing with Melsungen. The other semi-final is contested by THW Kiel and Rhein-Neckar Löwen.

Football – May: Bundesliga, Cup and European Finals

In May, one highlight follows another in football: the men’s and women’s national leagues are coming to an end, and the relegation games are still shaking. Plus the finals in the DFB Cup, the Champions League, the Europa League and the Conference League.

Cycling – Tour de France from July 5th to 27th

Tadej Pogacar, Remco Evenepoel, Primoz Roglic and…? The seemingly superhuman achievements of the professional cyclists make the hearts of cycling fans beat faster.

“We have a successful season behind us. But of course we are ambitious and want to do something better in terms of sport. We were second in the Giro and winner of the Vuelta – winning a Grand Tour is therefore also the logical goal in 2025.”said the boss of the German Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe team, Ralph Denk. Roglic should fix it.

Football, Nations League: Final Four (June 4th to June 8th: )

There’s a lot at stake in the tournament, because placement in the Nations League is important for the draw for the qualifying groups for the 2026 World Cup. Only the group winners qualify directly for the World Cup.

Football, Men’s U21 European Championship in Slovakia (June 11th to June 28th)

In times when there is little football, the U21 European Championship is always a good opportunity for young players to get into the public spotlight. Fans know many names from the Bundesliga. But would one or two players there possibly be recommended for the senior national team?

Handball – Champions League, Final Four in Cologne (June 14th/15th)

The Final Four is a perfect opportunity for handball enthusiasts to get a full dose of the four best handball teams in Europe.

Football, Club World Cup, (June 14th to July 13th)

For the first time, 32 teams will take part in the 2025 Club World Cup. There will be 63 games, with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund qualified from Germany.

Football, Women’s European Championship (July 2nd to 27th)

The European Championships in Switzerland are the first big test for coach Christian Wück, the successor to the “eternal” Horst Hrubesch. The DFB women have already celebrated the European Championship title eight times – although the last time was more than a decade ago (2013).

Athletics, The Finals 2025 (July 31st to August 3rd)

A mini-breath of the Olympics blows through Dresden at the end of July/beginning of August. The German champions in many sports are crowned over four days – and duly celebrated as part of this huge sports festival.

Basketball, Men’s European Championship (August 27th to September 14th)

It was a fairy tale when Germany won the title at the 2023 Basketball World Cup. Fourth place at the 2024 Olympics was a nice confirmation. The DBB representative is going into the European Championships in Latvia, Finland, Cyprus and Poland as one of the favorites. Of the 25 finals appearances so far, they have only triumphed once (1993).

Athletics, World Championships in Tokyo (September 13th to 21st)

After the Indoor World Championships in the spring, there is a big challenge for the athletes to either maintain or rebuild their form for the (outdoor) World Championships.

Finale of the 2025 Formula 1 season (December 7th)

Max Verstappen will face competition from McLaren in 2024. The traditional racing team has snatched the constructors’ championship away from Red Bull. How well Lewis Hamilton’s debut season as Ferrari’s No. 1 went will be clear after the 24th World Championship round at the latest.
