The Snapchat murder: this is how suspects blame each other

The mountain of evidence seems immense. And yet Jeroen L. categorically denied last week that he had anything to do with the murder of Gradus Haisch. He was brutally killed in March last year in the outskirts of Wouwse Plantage. According to his lawyer, there remains only one possible murderer: his girlfriend, and also the victim’s daughter.

It was the big question in the run-up to the trial against Jeroen: what does he say about that fatal evening? By the way, the case took a nice twist more than a week before the hearing. After all, both suspects were supposed to be in the room. But the victim’s daughter hired another lawyer shortly before the big day, who now needs time to read up on the file.

And so it was up to Jeroen to provide clarity about the series of evidence that the Public Prosecution Service found against him. In a plea lasting an hour and a half, his lawyer did her utmost to debunk each and every one of them and to explain why everything can be explained very logically.

Why he ordered a knife shortly before the murder, for example. Why he made a false appointment with the victim via Marktplaats. Why he got some ‘shopping’ on the day itself, such as a new pair of shoes and a bottle of bleach. And why he deleted all his messages with Gradus’ daughter shortly after the murder.

Curious about the story of Jeroen and his lawyer? And what does that mean for the case against his girlfriend? You will hear it in the new episode of our podcast The Snapchat Murder.
