The Smile have announced their debut album. A LIGHT FOR ATTRACTING ATTENTION, as it is called, is scheduled to be released on May 13, 2022 via XL Recordings – initially only digitally. Vinyl and CD versions will follow on June 17th. The 13-song record was produced by Nigel Godrich and mastered by Bob Ludwig. The recordings were accompanied by strings from the London Contemporary Orchestra and a full horn section featuring contemporary British jazz musicians including Byron Wallen, Theon and Nathaniel Cross, Chelsea Carmichael, Robert Stillman and Jason Yarde.

This is what A LIGHT FOR ATTRACTING ATTENTION looks like:

Coinciding with the album announcement, The Smile have also released a new single. “Free In The Knowledge” was already presented live in December 2021. Now you can hear it as a studio version and with a music video by Leo Leigh.

The Smile will play at Berlin’s Tempodrom on May 20th – presented by Musikexpress.

The trio is a so-called supergroup consisting of Radiohead members Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner. Her debut single “You Will Never Work In Television Again” was released in early January, followed by the song “The Smoke”. At the end of January, The Smile played three live stream concerts in London. ME author André Boße took a look at one of them and provided answers to ten questions one might have about The Smile.
