“The Simpsons” get a film sequel
It is the 20th anniversary of the “Simpsons” adaptation: in 2007 Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie were already on the big screen with their first film. Now the Disney studios confirmed a sequel to July 2027.
20th Century Studios shared the news on Instagram with a picture of Homer Simpson, who grabs a pink donut with sprinkles in the form of the number “2”. The caption reads: “Homer comes back to get a look up.”
There is still no title of the new film adaptation, and nothing is known about the action either. But at least the starting date for the animated comedy stands: On July 23, 2027, the film will start in the US cinemas, in Germany the yellow cult figures will take over the canvas the day before, on July 22, 2027.
The appointment is not chosen by chance. The date is actually reserved for a previously unknown Marvel film, but Matt Groenig’s small family jumps in. Further details, such as when the still undisturbed Marvel film will be postponed, or whether it has been completely deleted, are not known.
From TV debut to cinema success
The animation series around Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie celebrated its premiere on the US broadcaster Fox in December 1989. The program is currently in the 37th season. The format of Matt Groening was created together with James L. Brooks and Sam Simon after the Simpson family was first seen in short clips in the comedy series “The Tracey Ullmann Show” (1987-1990).
In the meantime, the series is generally-apart from its conventional comedy potential-also known to predict bizarre events. For example, Donald Trump’s election as the US President, Germany’s World Cup win 2014 and Lady Gaga’s appearance at the Super Bowl, to name just a few.
In 2007 the makers sought: Inside with “The Simpsons-The Film” worldwide over $ 536 million. In it, Homer threatens the environment of Springfield, whereupon the city is placed under a huge glass dome by the EPA environmental authority. Which adventure Homer and his family will experience in 2027 is still open.
