The pharmaceutical distribution cooperative Cofares reported this Wednesday that between November and January there has been in Spanish pharmacies a “noticeable increase“of the demand for masks high protection -FFP2 and FPP3- and also paracetamol.

Given the high spread

Specifically, the demand for FFP2 and FFP3 masks increased by 642% in the national average, while, in tune with the winter season and the confluence of colds and viruses, the sale of paracetamol grew by 60%.

“The high rate of spread of the omicron variant -sixth wave- and the return of the mandatory nature of the mask outdoors in December are some of the factors that have been able to favor this significant rebound, together with the fact that the population is aware of the high transmission of omicron”, explains the distributor in a statement.

If the data is compared month by month with respect to the previous year, it is observed that, in November, the overall rise of the purchase of masks was 206%. In December it was 931% and so far in January it has grown again to 959%.
