The Rosenbergs from Nuenen caused a stir in a German hotel on Saturday morning. All guests had to leave the hotel. Within a few minutes ambulance, fire brigade and police were on the doorstep. A forgotten toast from guitarist Mozes Rosenberg had set off the fire alarm.
Johnny Rosenberg still laughs a lot. “We told the reception that the alarm went off because of our sandwich, but they didn’t flinch and everyone had to go outside, including themselves. And within a few minutes the ambulance, fire brigade and police were here”, which was quite impressive.
“We were out quickly but were back in just as quickly for coffee.”
In total there were about forty men outside, Johnny Rosenberg estimates. “It all went very quickly. “Within a few minutes we were outside, but after twenty minutes we were drinking coffee again, because it had fallen by the wayside.”
The Rosenbergs were in Germany for a performance and were staying overnight near Munich. “We woke up quite early, because we have another performance in Heerlen on Saturday. Breakfast then becomes a bit chaotic, with packing things, some coffee and something to eat. And so the sandwich was burned. We don’t smoke anything, but the smoke alarm We did, and we immediately knew what was going on, but we all had to go outside.”
“We did stop for a sandwich along the way.”
On the way to Heerlen, Moses regularly gets the wind from the front. “It’s still a tasty story”, Jonny chuckles. “We did stop at a gas station for a sandwich for Moses, because he couldn’t have had breakfast anymore.”
