The house of the star is introducing new technology from Formula 1 to a production car for the first time, most notably the iconic and revamped SL roadster. This is how Mercedes Amg SL 43 was born, the new basic model of the SL range, a 2 + 2 with fabric hood powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric exhaust gas turbocharger. The innovative technology derives directly from that used for several years by the Mercedes-Amg Petronas team. The brand new Mercedes AMG SL 43 will join the already available V8 twin-turbo variants.

Technology derived from Formula 1

The electric-type exhaust gas turbocharger is capable of improving the response time of the engine. The operating principle is based on the same technology used by the Mercedes-Amg Petronas Formula 1 team. Directly on the shaft of the exhaust gas turbocharger is integrated a thin electronically controlled electric motor capable of directly driving the shaft of the gas turbocharger. by accelerating the compressor wheel before the exhaust gas flow takes over the drive function. The thermal engine reacts even more spontaneously to the accelerator pedal commands, making the driving sensation more dynamic and sporty. In addition, the electrification of the exhaust gas turbocharger allows for higher torque at low revs while ensuring greater agility and acceleration from standstill.

The innovative engine

The 48 V on-board electrical system supplies the exhaust gas turbocharger and the alternator-starter with Rsg belt drive. The turbocharger, the electric motor and the power electronics are connected to the cooling circuit of the internal combustion engine. In combination with the two-liter in-line four-cylinder engine, the innovative technology of the SL 43 guarantees a rated power of 381 hp at 6,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 480 Nm available between 3,250 rpm and 5,000 rpm Power that can increase depending on the situation and for a short period of time when the system produces an additional 14 Hp boost effect using the Rsg belt drive alternator-starter. The elegant roadster reaches a peak speed of 275 km / h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.9 seconds. Rear-wheel drive and 9-speed Mct Amg Speedshift gearbox with oil bath clutch.

The design

The new Mercedes Amg SL 43 differs from the two eight-cylinder models by the different front and rear aprons, but also by the round rather than rectangular shaped double tailpipe trims. The car is fitted with 19-inch light alloy wheels as standard. The same range offered for the eight-cylinder models is available on request, i.e. always light alloy wheels, but with optimized aerodynamics and a larger diameter, 20 or 21 inches. Sophisticated aerodynamics that rely on the Airpanel air regulation system and on the removable rear spoiler integrated seamlessly into the silhouette of the car. Finally, larger flics on the front and rear bumpers, in addition to the presence of a larger rear diffuser. Mbux infotainment with 12.3 “high resolution LCD screen.
