The rise firmly in view: FCK wins in Würzburg, football | 3rd League – SWR – Regional

The game in Table 18, which is threatened with relegation. started half an hour late due to heavy snowfall. The adverse weather conditions did the mood of the over 4,000 Lauterer fans who traveled with us however, no termination. With the loud support, FCK started the game highly motivated. After all, the Palatinate were unbeaten in four games. Of course, Marco Antwerpen’s team wanted to expand this series in order to be able to continue to climb on their own.

Würzburg strives, Wunderlich makes the difference

FCK underlined these ambitions in the first minutes of the game. Terrence Boyd made the first approach after three minutes, but Würzburg keeper Hendrik Bonmann was the first to get the ball. Würzburg also made it clear that they would do everything in their power to defend against the threat of relegation and would not make it too easy for FCK. After a good ten minutes, the hosts scored the first chance of the game: FCK goalkeeper Matheo Raab had a slight problem after a corner, but top striker Terrence Boyd helped out from behind and cleared the ball.

After half an hour it got loud again in the stadium. The Würzburg team had a good chance to counterattack, but the ball hit ex-Lauterer Marvin Pourié too long. And while the Würzburg Kickers even managed to gain a slight playful superiority in this phase, Mike Wunderlich scored out of nowhere to make it 1-0 for FCK (34th). It was the guests’ first real shot on goal. Wunderlich’s opening goal, a bounce from around 20 meters after Boyd’s preparatory work, was therefore quite flattering. The Lauterern couldn’t care less. Shortly before the break, Kevin Kraus even had the chance to make it 2-0. But the defender hit the post after 40 minutes. The Red Devils went into the break with a narrow 1-0 lead.

Boyd scores 2-0 after a Wunderlich free-kick

In the second half, FCK coach Antwerp took Boris Tomiak off the field, probably due to injury, and brought in Julian Niehues instead. In the first few minutes after the change of sides, FCK tried to constrict their opponent a bit. But that didn’t really work out at first. In the 58th minute, however, Lauterer used their standard strength and Terrence Boyd headed in after a free kick from Mike Wunderlich to make it 2-0 for the winter new signing.

Würzburg manages to score just before the end

As a result, the Palatinate had the game under control for a long time. In the 85th minute, the hosts came dangerously close to the goal again and were then successful and Saliou Sané scored the 1:2 goal. FCK then saved the narrow lead over time. This is how the Antwerp team got its next victory, albeit less brilliantly than in the 5:1 against Duisburg in the previous week, celebrate. The Red Devils are thus consolidating their second place in the table and still have the best chance of promotion.

The Lauterers want to get a little closer to that on the next matchday against Saarbrück. The game on Easter Sunday is already sold out. 47,000 fans want to drive their team back to victory on the Betze.
