Gil Ofarim reports how he lied to his children about the 2021 Star of David scandal.
Since the last season of the RTL program “I’m a Star – Get Me Out of Here!” The musician Gil Ofarim is once again a big topic in the German media landscape. He won this year’s season and was crowned jungle king in 2026. However, the focus was on a completely different topic: his “Star of David scandal” from 2021. In the aftermath of the “Jungle Camp”, new details about it are now coming to light.
“First and foremost dad”
In an interview with RTL presenter Frauke Ludowig, Gil Ofarim described himself “first and foremost as a dad”. But his children in particular have allegedly suffered from his decisions in recent years. The reason for this is the excessive media presence of his “Star of David scandal” from 2021. At that time, he published a video in which he accused Markus W., an employee of a Leipzig hotel, of anti-Semitism and stated that he had discriminated against him because of his Jewish faith. However, the allegations turned out to be fabricated. His face could be seen everywhere due to the negative headlines at the time.
In the recently released RTL+ documentary “The Gil Ofarim Case,” the musician reports on how his children perceived the news about their father at the time. He remembers a situation in which he was walking past a kiosk with his children. His face was featured large on the newspapers he sold. “My son was happy and said: ‘Dad, look, you’re everywhere!’” reports the 43-year-old. At that time he decided to lie to his children and told them that the reports were positive about his music.
“These are the real losers”
It continued: “They couldn’t read then. Now they can read. But what is the end result of this? You have children at home, they are the real losers.”
According to Ofarim, there is still a positive development. Because of his prize for winning the “Jungle Camp,” the father of the family can allegedly afford an apartment in Munich again, which will allow him to be closer to his children. However, he also has to use this money to pay off his debts to Markus W. The defamation lawsuit was settled following an agreement for a payment of 20,000 euros. Immediately following this year’s season of “I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!” He gave an interview to presenter Rebecca Mir as part of the RTL program “Exclusive” in which he himself said: “I have something to transfer.”
