The Rasmus releases the song Rise – a touching story in the background

The Rasmus Lauri Ylönen experienced a severe period during the corona pandemic. The band’s new music is heard on how to get through the difficulties.

About a month has passed since the Eurovision Song Contest. The members of The Rasmus are together again, albeit virtually this time.

Lauri Ylönen sitting at his computer in Hawaii and bassist Eero Heinonen jogging in his native Australia. Guitarist Emilia “Emppu” Suhonen patches the cat in his arms while the drummer Aki Hakala lying casually with headphones on his ears.

There is no information about the disappointment, even though the visa win did not come home from Turin.

– The final performance was our best bet and I am really proud of it. The end result is not ashamed at all, it is just a Score. On stage we were the best version of ourselves, it’s a personal win, Lauri sums up his thoughts.

– After all, we couldn’t go to win the Eurovision Song Contest, because we knew that the Finns were going to win the World Hockey Championships. We had to give them (hockey players) a spotlight too, Eero jokes.

Looking up

The Rasmus will release a new one on Friday Risea song that has been making a musical difference Desmond Child. A recent music video has also been filmed for the cinematic song in the melody pool.

At the center is Lauri Ylönen, surrounded by frighteningly masked dancers trying to pull Lauri down to the ground.

– We called the dancers “roots” who try to tear us to the deep, but we have to fight and not give up. This reflects the message of the whole song, Lauri describes.

According to Lauri, the background is a very personal message.

– I struggled with depression before last summer. It took me to a pretty deep and dark state, and it was pretty scary to be shocked at what was really going on, Lauri says.

The background was the uncertainty about the future caused by the corona pandemic and the band’s internal malaise. All the work plans were on ice and the members were each from different parts of the world.

– When we had video chats, I went to the lock. I didn’t get a word out. It’s easy to think when you look at my life, “There it is under the sun and palm trees and everything is wonderful”. What you see is not always the whole truth.

Grief was also present in family life. Katriina’s wife had four miscarriages in a row.

– It was tough for both of us. At first you really hope a lot and things go badly, and again you look forward to it.

Finally, the family was born in October last year Ever-daughter.

Healing

Participating in the New Music Competition and thus in Eurovision has been a real “therapy trip” for the group. Additional energy has been brought by Emppu, who joined the ranks last fall when Pauli Rantasalmi left the band.

– I have had a grateful place to join the band right now, when those difficult episodes are starting to get over and get involved in the beginning of everything good, Emppu says.

– Emppu has been like an angel to us. When Emppu joined, our band was intact for a long time, Lauri describes.

After the stormy moments, there is a long summer tour ahead. The band promises that fans will be able to hear the hit songs from the first album.

The tour of Finland will culminate in a giant concert to be held at the Helsinki Ice Rink at the end of September. In October, the band will tour Europe.

– We are stronger the more we have fun. We enjoy being together and I am most looking forward to it this summer, Lauri says.
