The province will invest a lot of money in agriculture and nature next year. Yesterday the province announced the budget. In total she expects to spend 523 million euros. Around 40 percent is for agriculture and nature, good for just over 212 million euros.
“We have to get started with radical and far -reaching tasks, which will continue to change the rural area, and in particular the rural area. The consequences of climate change, the transition of agriculture, the transition to a sustainable energy supply, sufficient homes and work locations and good accessibility all require space. The Drentse Landschap will change,” writes the province.
The most money is for strengthening and maintaining nature and the Drenthe landscape. Almost 114 million euros had already been reserved for this, but the province will add another 5 million euros for this in the coming year. This is necessary to absorb an acute shortage in nature management, the province reports. From this year there is a shortage of 2 million euros here, but that will rise to 7.8 million in 2029.
Furthermore, money goes to agricultural nature management, among other things. In total, the province will invest nearly 135.5 million euros in nature next year. There will be 68 million euros for agriculture, most of which is intended for reducing CO2 emissions. “We realize this, among other things, research and stimulating management measures and innovation,” the province said. For example, she wants to support farmers in investments and innovations.
The province also wants to support projects in horticulture, arable farming and livestock farming aimed at sustainability, strengthening biodiversity and improving the financial income position of entrepreneurs in agriculture.
