By 2027, at least three new Social Food Gardens should be added in Drenthe. The province is allocating 225,000 euros for this.
Together with the two existing food gardens De Pluimerije in Havelte and De Kiemhuistuin in Wilhelminaoord, at least 500 households living at or below the poverty line can gain access to free, fresh and unsprayed vegetables. They can also participate in social and educational activities that the gardens offer.
Charlotte Willems of the De Kiemhuistuin in Wilhelminaoord: “Social Food Gardens are more than a place where vegetables grow; they are a place for meeting, education, connection and health. Every day we see the positive impact here in Frederiksoord.”
