The process of Camping Murder Middelkerke starts today

The Middelkerke police checked a suspicious car with three occupants in the Spermaliestraat around 2 a.m. in 2017. In the trunk of the Seat Ibiza is a decapitated body of an Ostend. The driver and her two passengers were arrested. An additional name was mentioned during the interrogation and the police had meanwhile reported another accused that there were problems at the Marva III campsite, nearby. Investigators found traces of blood in a caravan. There had been incidents for some time, including about food stolen by the victim – which at the time was from one of the accused who lived in the caravan. The conflict would have flared up again shortly before the murder.

Gagged and stabbed

The Ostend resident was asleep when the Middelkerkenaars with Walloon and Brussels roots stepped into caravan 116 on 6 December. It remains unclear what exactly happened that night. It is established that the victim was gagged with a telephone cable and received serious blows, including with a saucepan. The victim was also treated with a potato knife, a meat skewer and a bread knife. (read more below the photo)

At one point, to prevent the caravan from being covered in blood, he was handed a cooking pot to collect his blood. In the end, he was also hit hard on the head with that cooking pot. One of the accused admitted that he finally cut the victim’s throat. Afterwards, the body was moved with a wheelbarrow to an empty caravan. There, the body was still set on fire near the pubic area.

“Not involved”

To this day, one accused maintains that although he was present in caravan 116, he had nothing to do with the murder itself. According to him, the door of the caravan was locked, preventing him from fleeing. When the facts got completely out of hand, he said he withdrew to the bedroom. From there he would have heard how the man who slit his throat shouted ‘Allah Akbar’.

The same man who denies having anything to do with the murder, however, drummed up a friend with her then-boyfriend to “solve a problem”. The couple came from Namur to Middelkerke. After their arrest at the Slijpebrug, the duo was in pre-trial detention for several months. In the meantime, they have already been sentenced to 120 hours of community service and 15 months in prison, respectively, with a postponement for hiding the body. (read more below the video)
