“Sixth sense” is a famous film from 1996. Starring Bruce Willis, the film accompanies a psychologist in dealing with a patient, a child, who says he can see dead people. Spoiler notice: In the end the protagonist ends up realizing that he is one of those who spent better life.
Saving the distances, the time between the election of 2023 and that of the Buenos Aires legislators can be understood as a replica of that film: the pro was “dead” all this time, but did not know. You can even specify the death date of the space founded by Mauricio Macri. It was on the night of the “Acassuso Pact”, in the previous ballotage, when the former president sealed an alliance with Freedom advances. From that moment on, the result was written.
In fact, the former leader of the Argentine center could have done something as simple as entering Google. There would have learned what happened in other countries where expressions of the new right triumphed, as in the United States of Donald Trump or Brazil in Bolsonaro. The story in these two nations marks that the emerging of this new policy ended up eating absolutely the entire quadrant of the center to the right. The end was written, but Macri and theirs could not see it. “Impossible that happens: in Congress they do not have the numbers, they will have to negotiate with us,” one of the former president’s right hands told me at that time. They overestimated their strength, and fell into one of the mistakes that the once Guru of space, Jaime Durán Barba, warns as the most common in politics: to believe that the votes belong to the leaders, and that they can move them at will. The Pro voter had already emigrated to Libertad advances before the Acassuso pact. If any survival hendija had this party, it was splitting from that place, seeking to create something new. The place where they had been, for almost twenty years, had already ceased to exist.
In the same way that the end of the PRO was anticipated, which follows too. In fact, it began to see since before the election, when historical leaders of this space made the leap to the libertarian ranks. That path can only take hold. Again, that is only the appearance on the surface of something much deeper: the yellow space lost the connection with the period climate. Freedom advances, precisely, those ashes emerges. Now Macri may be a candidate in the October National Elections (something that until now resisted), but, like Bruce Willis, he is heading towards an end that is already written.
