Decreased COVID-19 deaths and severe cases in the background increase in incidence gives reason for optimism, says the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Alexander Sergeev.

“This is encouraging, because the coronavirus is becoming similar to some seasonal diseases, including SARS,” Sergeyev said.

The academician said that among his colleagues and acquaintances there are many with a positive PCR test, but there are no severe cases, the main trouble of the virus is the temperature for one or two days. General vaccination will allow to reduce the number of severe cases to a minimum, Sergeev is sure.

Sergeyev is wary of claiming that the disease proceeds completely without a trace, but he does not see a subject for some kind of panic, the situation, according to him, is much calmer than before.
