The owner of the world’s largest porn site Pornhub has admitted that the company benefited financially from human trafficking, says an American Time magazine.
The company has been ordered to pay more than $1.8 million in fines to the state in the United States, as well as separate compensation for women whose videos were shown on the site without their consent.
American media of the New York Times according to the women were forced to appear in pornographic videos, which were later published on the site.
Prosecutor of James Smith according to Pornhub’s parent company, Aylo Holdings, “enriched itself by deliberately turning a blind eye” to those victims who told them about it.
The agreement between the company and the prosecutors also includes that adult entertainment websites owned by Aylo must be monitored by an independent party for the next three years. According to the Reuters news agency, in return, the prosecutors will drop the charges after this, on the condition that the company’s control practices improve.
Pornhub has been in the middle of an uproar before. For example, in 2020, it was reported that the service contained, among other things, porn videos in which minor victims of human trafficking were depicted. Even though the criminals behind them were convicted, Pornhub kept the videos on display and collected financial benefits for themselves.
Earlier this year, on the other hand, there were news about the accusations against Pornhub, according to which it had illegally collected the data of millions of people in Italy. Pornhub has more than 2 billion monthly visitors.
