After the ‘My name is Peter’ campaign, a photo of a German CEO lunch is once again causing a stir due to lack of diversity. Cecile Wansink of the feminist platform Women Inc. finds the photo astonishing, but is disappointed that we unfortunately see a similar trend in the Netherlands.
Where are the women?
The photo was taken at the Munich Security Conference 2022. In the photo you can see a dozen older men having a meeting. You’d say the photo is too dull to cause a discussion, but this has happened. “It is 2022. Where is the new generation and where are the women?”, it sounds on Twitter.
Trend in the Netherlands
The photo went viral on Twitter. In an interview with Subway Cecile Wansink reacts to the photo. “On the one hand, this photo is astonishing, but on the other hand, it is not, because we see a similar trend in the Netherlands.” It has been known for some time that there is a huge lack of diversity at the top of business. That also makes this photo painfully clear. You only see men, they are all white and they are all of a certain age.
Change situation
Women Inc. already launched the campaign ‘My name is Peter’ last January. In the Netherlands, more CEOs of listed companies are called Peter than there are female CEOs. Sounds unlikely, but it’s really true. According to Cecile, it is important to do something about this. “People often think that things will change on their own, but if we have to wait for that, then we are still working on it for a very long time.”
OLD-BOY NETWORK
This photo is currently going viral and the anger is justified. It shows an astonishing standstill to find that in 2022 the CEO lunch of an important German meeting is a mushy mess of gray men. No woman in sig…https://t.co/Wi4O6BKo6H
