The pension can wait: Ancelotti writes Selecao history

Carlo Ancelotti will take over Brazil’s national team around superstar Neymar in 2024 – and in doing so will make history.

Fishing off Vancouver, cooking good food, trying out fine wines – Carlo Ancelotti actually wanted to retire next summer and devote himself to his hobbies. But nothing will come of it. Ancelotti will take over Brazil in 2024, become the national coach of Neymar and Co. – and should ensure titles again.

The record world champion Ancelotti actually wanted to play immediately after the messed up World Cup in Qatar, but the grand seigneur with the chewing gum stayed at Real Madrid for another year as agreed. “The reality is that the Brazilian national team wants me, and that flatters me, that makes me happy,” said the 64-year-old recently: “But you have to respect the current contract. A contract that I want to fulfill with honor to the end .”

Now Ancelotti and Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the Brazilian association CBF, have agreed to work together from the Copa America next summer – until then Fernando Diniz will take over as an interim solution. “His vision of the game is similar to that of the coach who will take over from the Copa America and that’s Ancelotti,” said Rodrigues.

Nothing has been signed yet, but the goal is clear: Ancelotti should lead Brazil back to the top, the proud football country has been waiting for a World Cup title for 21 years. In doing so, they even break with tradition. Because: The last foreign coach of Brazil was the Argentinian Filpo Nunez, who in 1965 was in charge of just one game.

So now Ancelotti. “He’s the best coach in the world,” says Vinicius Junior, who rose to stardom under “Carletto” in Madrid. And Ancelotti knows how to win titles. He has won the Champions League four times and is the only coach to date to have won the championship in Spain, England, Italy, Germany and France. He can still fish later – after the 2026 World Cup. Then maybe even as world champion.
