The ninth edition of the Eurocup Delfzijl is coming: BVB, West Ham and Dynamo Kiev make their debut

Eurocup Delfzijl has again registered European top clubs for the ninth edition of the youth tournament. Borussia Dortmund (Germany), West Ham United (England) and Ukrainian side Dynamo Kiev will make their debuts at the tournament, which will take place on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 January 2023.

In addition to these three debutants and permanent player of the Eurocup Region Team, FC Groningen, Ajax Amsterdam, AZ Alkmaar, PSV Eindhoven, title holder KRC Genk, Club Brugge (Belgium), FC Bayern Munich (Germany) and Fortaleza EC (Brazil) will again be coming to the Groningen Seaports stadium in the port of Delfzijl.

Dynamo Kyiv

The participation of Dynamo Kiev is, according to the organization, a show of support for the team and the Ukrainians who have fled in the region. But anyone who thinks that the bacon and beans team will participate will be disappointed. The Ukrainians have a good level and will do everything they can to return with the cup to the east of Poland, where the team is staying because of the war.

Field of participants

Once again, big names from the football world are coming to Delfzijl, from Bayern Munich to Fortaleza from Brazil. The other side of the coin is the lack of clubs such as Feyenoord, Sparta Rotterdam and Chelsea FC. The British have been regular players of the tournament since 2016 and in 2018 they even won.

For the next edition, another English team has been chosen: West Ham United. Several English footballers have started their careers in West Ham’s youth academy, including Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Michael Carrick, Rio Ferdinand and current first-team player Declan Rice (currently with the England national team at the World Cup in Qatar). The team from London will make their debut at the tournament.

Online ticket sales will start on Monday 5 December.
