Something is changing in the world of wellness. The classic massage or the weekly yoga class is no longer enough, today proposals that mix technology, sensory rituals and unconventional techniques are beginning to appear. Some promise to reset the mind; others treat the body with wood, heat or water. They are all part of a new layer of experiences that expand between offices, boutique studios and specialized centers.

Away from stress

One of the treatments in vogue is “Japanese head spa”, a ritual of Japanese origin that combines deep cleansing of the scalp with prolonged head, neck and shoulder massages. The experience includes steam, hydrotherapy and manual maneuvers aimed at stimulating microcirculation and relaxing cervical muscles. Although the focus is on hair health, many of those who try it seek it for its relaxing effect and the feeling of deep rest it generates.

Spa

“Specific work on the head, neck and scalp helps reduce accumulated physical and mental tension,” explains masseuse and wellness techniques trainer Noelia González. According to him, the stimulation of this area promotes oxygenation of the skin and improves the conditions of the scalp, which impacts the vitality and appearance of the hair over time. The treatment became increasingly visible in networks and specialized centers, so much so that it began to be organized as a business. The Japanese Head Spa brand, founded in Malaga at the end of 2023, began its expansion in Latin America with a first opening in the city of Córdoba and plans to add more in the rest of the country.

To this type of proposals focused on the regulation of the nervous system is added floatation therapy, also known as a “sensory isolation tank.” The experience occurs inside a flotarium, a capsule or room where the water is saturated with magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt), which allows the body to float easily and almost completely reduces the feeling of weight. The temperature of the water and the environment are kept very close to that of the body, while the space can remain completely dark and silent, with the aim of minimizing external stimuli.

Floatary

The sessions last between one and two hours and many use them to relieve stress, anxiety, chronic pain or improve sleep. Others use it as a complement to meditation or to stimulate creativity. “We have seen how many people discover for the first time what it means to truly relax without external distractions,” they point out from Flotario Zero Gravite, a space dedicated to this practice, which brings together users between 20 and 80 years old interested in experiences of deep rest and sensory disconnection.

Train the brain

The brain also gained a visible place on the map of well-being. ExoMind is presented as a non-invasive brain stimulation system that activates areas linked to emotional regulationrest, self-control and decision making. The treatment would seek to stimulate neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to reorganize and strengthen certain neuronal circuits.

“For many years, well-being was focused mainly on the body, but today we know that the brain regulates a good part of these processes,” explain doctors Ana Bogado and Lore Stubrin, from Fimedical, one of the pioneer centers to incorporate this technology in Argentina. In clinical practice, they point out, many people come seeking to improve the quality of sleep, reduce anxiety or better manage stress, something especially common among professionals with a high workload or people who feel that their mind cannot disconnect. The method is taking its first steps in the world of wellness but specialists assure that it improves conditions such as fibromyalgia, migraines or addiction treatments. Many recognized centers in Argentina already have this treatment system. It is endorsed by the FDA and Anmat but it is always advisable to consult with your family doctor.

Therapy

Movement and shape

After a few years of experiencing yoga in high-temperature rooms (as is the case with Bikram yoga), today other training disciplines are joining the same path. One of them is “hot pilates”, a variant of “pilates mat” that is practiced in heated environments, usually with infrared heat, which intensifies physical effort and modifies the body experience.

Pilates

One of the studios that introduced the method in the country is Hottest Studio, started in 2025 in Colegiales and recently expanded to Caballito. The proposal combines classic Pilates exercises on a mat with functional movements and elements such as bands, dumbbells or anklets, all within a room with a high temperature. “Today many people look for training to be an experience and not just another routine,” explains Florencia Fraga, founder. According to him, the heat increases the demands of physical work and forces us to develop greater control and body awareness. The classes are multilevel, so each student can adapt the intensity. For many, the appeal lies in that combination of physical challenge and the feeling of detoxification that heat produces.

And also In order to intervene in the body from the physical and aesthetic aspects, wood therapy appears, a massage technique that uses wooden tools. Designed to work different areas of the body. Rollers, cups and boards apply pressure to the tissues to stimulate circulation, promote lymphatic drainage and help shape the silhouette.

Therapy

“Each tool has a specific use and allows the treatment to be adapted to the needs of each person, achieving more precise results than a traditional manual massage,” the Functional Aesthetics team explains. The technique is usually used to improve the firmness of the skin, reduce the appearance of cellulite and relieve the feeling of heaviness in the legs, in addition to stimulating circulation and relaxing the muscles.

For the head, for the body, for the brain: wellness is beginning to expand into increasingly varied and effective territories.
