The Dutch baseball team has provided a resounding surprise at the Haarlem Baseball Week. Title holder Japan was defeated 2-1 in the Pim Mulier Stadium, which means that the Orange squad qualifies for the final. Yesterday, Japan was still far too strong (5-0) for the Netherlands in the first round.
After the first inning, the Netherlands faced a minimal deficit against Japan, which won the Baseball Week in 2018. What followed was an even battle in which both countries failed to score. In the last inning, the Netherlands turned the game around completely. Sharlon Schoop and Dwayne Kemp scored two runs to give the Netherlands the 2-1 victory.
The Netherlands will play the final in Haarlem tomorrow evening. At 7 p.m., the team will take on Curaçao. In the first round, Curaçao was still too strong for the Netherlands with 8-6. In 2016, the Netherlands last won the Haarlem Baseball Week.
