The government extends the duration of the fourth National Action Plan (NAP 1325-IV) about women, peace and safety. That happens with 2 years to 2027. A letter to the Chamber mentions that today. The NAP 1325-IV is an elaboration of UN resolution 1325.
The UN Security Council adopted the resolution on October 31, 2000 and focuses on the role of women before, during and after a conflict. The resolution emphasizes the importance of women in peace processes. Women are still excluded too often, so that important knowledge remains unused. The decision also includes the protection of women and girls against all forms of conflict-related violence.
The Netherlands worked out the resolution in 4 consecutive national action plans. The government focuses on strategic goals, among other things. Think of participation, prevention, protection, emergency aid and reconstruction. The departments involved are each responsible for this in their own policy area.
Gender perspective
In recent years, the Ministry of Defense has been making up for improved integration of the gender perspective in military operations. This is partly due to the participation of (military) gender advisers in operational planning groups. The armed forces also paid attention to the position of women and girls during Dutch contributions to Eupor Althea, EFP Lithuania and the commitment in Iraq. Defense also delivered gender advisers to missions in the Middle East, including the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) and the United States Security Coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority (USSC) in Jerusalem/Ramallah.
Defense works closely with the EU, NATO and the Nordic Center for Gender in Military Operations. The Ministry of Defense also invests in a larger gender consciousness within its own workforce.
