On November 16th, The Murder Capital released the third single “Ethel” from their second album “Gigi’s Recovery” along with the music video. The record will be released on January 20, 2023 and was produced by John Congleton. The musicians are going on tour next year (the dates for Germany are below).

“Ethel” as a synonym for the crossroads of life

“Ethel” addresses questions about life in the present and the sometimes conflicting future visions of the past. The video clip also reflects the dichotomy between old and new desires and making the “right” decisions in the course of one’s own existence. In this context, the line “I always wanted everything to be the same for us and for our first child to be called ‘Ethel’” sounds like an appeal to leave the old behind and live in the here and now.

Here is the music video:

The mantra from the album: “New feeling / (..) This morning / (…) In my own skin”

The musicians explain the development process of the new production: “We had this slightly ironic mantra at the beginning of the writing of this album: ‘The development will not be affected’. That kept us on track even when we didn’t know where we were going.”

As a further guiding principle for their musical work for the second record, The Murder Capital named: “New feeling / To reveal it / I stay involved / I make it fixed / This morning / I made it my own / To stay forever / In my own skin…”
