The municipality of Assen is again granting a subsidy for a rain barrel and a green roof

In the next two years, residents of Assen can again receive a subsidy from the municipality for a rain barrel, the construction of a green roof or the disconnection of the drainage of rainwater to the sewer. Assen hopes to promote a more sustainable and healthier living environment.

The council has decided to extend the subsidy, because the sustainable measures are a success according to the municipality. In the past two years, more than 950 rain barrels have been purchased and 65 residents have installed a green roof with the subsidy.

The subsidy will be extended up to and including 31 December 2024. The Municipal Executive has made an amount of 230,000 euros available for this purpose.

If you purchase a rain barrel, you will receive a maximum refund of 25 euros. For the construction of a green roof, this is an amount of 20 euros per square meter. Residents of the management area of ​​the Hunze en Aa’s water board receive an extra subsidy of 5 euros for the construction of a green roof. For disconnecting rainwater, the subsidy depends on the size of the surface, varying from 2.67 euros to 2 euros per square meter.
