The renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology is in eighth place with annual tuition of US$65,500. Although the institute, which was founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1861, is not one of the elite schools in the Ivy League, it is considered the best American university according to Forbes rankings. According to Forbes, MIT researchers filed 439 patents last year and 25 companies were founded using the university’s intellectual property.
