The Ministry of Digital Transformation explained the rejection of “no limits” by the load on the networks and sanctions

The Ministry of Digital Transformation announced a “critical mass” of old tariffs that create an “unreasonably high load” on the network. Due to sanctions, telecom operators may have problems with the modernization of existing stations and the installation of new ones

The Internet traffic of Russian telecom operators is growing annually by more than 50%, in order to maintain the volume of data transmission and the quality of services, new stations should be built and existing ones improved, which becomes difficult due to sanctions, according to a message received by RBC from the Ministry of Digital Development.

“Given the shortage of equipment under the sanctions, operators may face objective difficulties in maintaining the pace of network development. In this regard, the Russian Ministry of Digital Development considered it necessary to recommend that operators evenly distribute the load on the networks,” the statement said.

To evenly distribute the load, the ministry is sure, it is necessary to “limit the offers of unlimited tariffs, which caused distortions in traffic consumption.” If necessary, it is recommended to revise the “tariff filling”. “In operator activity, this is a constant process, it always follows the capabilities of the telecom market,” the ministry said in a statement.

“Mobile operators have accumulated a critical mass of so-called “archival” tariffs, including those with unlimited access to the Internet. This creates an unreasonably high load in places where subscribers can connect to wired communication networks,” the ministry added.
